Although I generally love Sarah Gailey, I had a hard time with JUST LIKE HOME because of the toxic mother-daughter relationship. I had a similar reaction to Gillian Flynn's SHARP OBJECTS, so I think this is just a personal thing.

For me, The Shining, by Stephen King, is a terrific example of a house (a resort hotel being lived in on the off season) as the perfect example of what you have brilliantly termed the "hungry home."
I think you might like it! This particular one is not as scary as what you describe in this week's books (which I will never read now that you have described them because I am a wus)! It is more spooky-scary than scary-scary in my opinion. The movie took some liberties and made everything much more icky-scary than the book is. I first read it at around 13 and really enjoyed it.

ooh ok that is good to know! 13! wow! i do enjoy the psychological more than the bloody type horror for sure so now i'm intrigued.
